SaveSomeJack by protecting your personal information...

Identity theft has become a leading form of white collar crime. The amount of money and time you can lose trying to repair the damage done can be staggering. Now, more than ever, it’s very important to take steps to protect yourself...
- Do NOT carry your Social Security number in your wallet.
If your wallet is lost or stolen, a thief has all the information he needs to do serious damage to your credit. Don’t carry your Social Security card with you and be sure that none of your ID cards have it listed...often insurance cards will. If they do, scratch it off.
- Don’t give out personal information, unless absolutely necessary.
Very few establishments need you Social Security number or driver’s license number. Both are very sensitive and should not be given out unless absolutely necessary. Also, be very protective of your mother’s maiden name, which is a very common security question.
- Contact the Credit Bureaus.
Ask them to call you at home before extending instant credit. A very common theft is to sign up for instant department store credit with your identification and then leaving you with the bill. By asking the credit bureaus to contact you at home before issuing credit, you drastically reduce this possibility.
